Winter Camp Awareness Training

On Saturday January 14, 2023, the Order of the Arrow Yerba Buena Lodge will be conducting an annual Winter Camp Awareness training on the USS Hornet in Alameda. If your troop intends to pursue winter camping or cold weather camping, this is the training experience that will prepare your youth (and leaders) to have a fun and safe time in the snow or cold. Training sessions include:

  • Sleeping Warm
  • Stoves and Fuel
  • First Aid
  • Tents and Terrain
  • Winter Foods
  • Winter Clothing

Camping in 15-degree weather is not for the unprepared. Attending these training sessions will give your troop everything they need to plan a successful and safe event in frigid conditions. There is the added bonus that the entire day is spent aboard the USS Hornet which served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Apollo space program. After the training, attendees may cotinue to tour the Hornet (at no additional cost) for the rest of the afternoon.
